The Stark-Tuscarawas-Wayne Recycling District announced a new pilot program, in partnership with Call2Recycle, to expand the program and recycle additional types of batteries at the Canton Recycle Center.

The Canton Recycle Center will accept lithium, lithium ion, nickel-cadmium, nickel-metal hydride and lead acid batteries. All other batteries are acceptable except alkaline, carbon-zinc and manganese.

Alkaline, carbon-zinc and manganese batteries are not classified as dangerous goods by the U.S. Department of Transportation or the major international regulatory bodies and are therefore not regulated and should be thrown away in your trash.
